Continuous monitoring of cave air and atmosphere is being carried out at two levels in the Rock using multichannel logging systems built at Royal Holloway.

Cave air and outside atmosphere is pumped at 2 or 4 hourly intervals to a Licor 820 NDIR CO2 analyser from 13 sites via a network of over 1km of 6mm tubing.

The systems are calibrated to zero air, 10,040 ppmv air and NOAA atmospheric standards and data are downloaded every 1-2 months. Work is underway to network the monitoring  systems and recover data remotely via the internet.
